Why this brand exists
Most commercial insurance treats a warehouse like a big empty building and a distributor like a small trucking
company. Both descriptions are wrong, and the wrongness is expensive.
A warehouse is not really in the building business — it is in the custody business. It answers
for goods it does not own, under a storage contract most owners have never read closely, and the loss it fears
most is specifically carved out of the general liability policy it already bought. A distributor is not really in
the trucking business — it is in the inventory business, carrying its own product on its own
balance sheet from a supplier it may never have visited to a customer it may never meet, and sitting in a
products-liability chain for goods it did not manufacture.
Those are two different companies with two different failure modes, and they get sold the same policy. Warehouse
Guard exists because we got tired of watching that happen. Everything on this site is organized around one
question: whose goods are at risk — your customers’, or your own? Answer that and the whole
program follows.
Who we insure
Three operating models, and plenty of businesses are more than one of them at once:
- Warehouse Insurance — public, 3PL, contract, bonded, cold-storage,
food-grade, and fulfillment operators. You hold other companies’ freight, and their goods are your exposure.
- Distribution Insurance — direct-store-delivery, route and final-mile,
own-brand and beverage, food and grocery, building-products and auto-parts. Your product is on the road.
- Wholesaler Insurance — merchant wholesalers, importers and first
U.S. sellers, durable and nondurable goods, B2B and industrial supply. You own what you sell.
We do not insure manufacturers, retail stores, motor carriers whose only business is hauling freight, or consumer
storage-unit facilities. Being clear about who we are not for is part of being useful to the people we
are for.
How we place it
We are an independent brokerage, not a captive agency, which means we are not trying to fit your operation into
one company’s appetite. We place warehouse and distribution risks through a specialty panel of
25 markets, across 48 states — every state
except Hawaii and Alaska.
What we actually do before a policy binds is read things: your storage agreements and the limitation-of-liability
language in your warehouse receipts, the additional-insured and limit requirements buried in your 3PL contracts
and your lease, and — if you import — the terms that decide exactly when the risk of loss passed to you. That is
where the gaps live. A quote is easy; knowing what the quote is missing is the job.
The people
Nate Jones, CPCU
Founder
Nate Jones is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and the founder of
Wexford Insurance, LLC,
the parent of this brand. He studied Insurance & Risk Management at Indiana State University, and he
places warehousing, distribution, and wholesaling risks nationally — the bailee exposure of a 3PL holding a
customer’s freight, the stock throughput placement that has to begin where an importer’s risk of loss
actually passes, and the products-liability chain a distributor sits in without ever having made the
product. He writes the coverage explainers on this site himself.

Kami Jones co-founded
Wexford Insurance, LLC
and runs the side of the business clients feel but rarely see: getting submissions in front of the right
market the first time, keeping certificates and additional-insured endorsements moving so a customer
contract does not stall, and making sure a renewal is worked well before anyone is up against a deadline.
The parent company
Warehouse Guard Insurance is a specialty brand of
Wexford Insurance, LLC
(National Producer Number 19887690), an independent brokerage based in Greenwood,
IN. Wexford runs a family of specialty brands, each built for one trade rather than
one product — because the difference between a good program and a bad one is almost never the policy form, it is
whether the person placing it understands what you actually do all day.
